Forestry-protected tractor and timber forwarding trailer

Learn to prepare, drive and maintain a tractor base machine with a timber forwarding trailer and loader crane. This illustrated course covers compatible connections, forestry protection, safe isolation, hydraulic power, crane extension and lifting radius, loading, stacking, extraction routes and public-road travel. The course includes practical activities, maintenance records and learning questions.

Use the lessons alongside supervised practical training and the current manuals for the actual tractor, trailer, hitch, crane and hydraulic power unit. Work may take place in woodland, open ground, estates, yards or roadside sites.

Know the complete combination

Welcome to H and W Training. A tractor, forwarding trailer and loader crane must work as a compatible combination. Pulling power alone does not prove suitability. Check the tractor, approved hitch, trailer, brakes, tyres and crane. Each has limits. The lowest relevant limit governs the operation, including loads imposed on the tractor and drawbar.

Work may take place in woodland, open ground, yards or roadside sites. Match protection to the hazards. Forestry work can require protection against overturn, falling objects and penetrating material. A homemade screen is not proof of compliance. Confirm the fitted system, inspect its attachments, wear the specified restraint and keep emergency exits clear.

The employer provides suitable equipment and training. The site controller coordinates the operation. Operators complete checks, follow the plan and report defects. Pre use checks, maintenance and thorough examination are different activities. Confirm the applicable examination arrangements with a competent person. Do not assume that a tractor conversion qualifies for a forestry exemption.

Now pause and think. Is a trailer suitable simply because the tractor can pull it? Pause the video, explain your answer, then continue.

No. Confirm protection, compatibility, braking, capacities and stability for the actual task. Every connection and component must be suitable, and the operator must understand its limits. Use the matching workbook pages during supervised practice.
